About the Role

The Preschool Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Child Care Teacher in setting up and implementing daily curriculum that promotes social, cultural, educational, physical, and emotional growth. The role also involves performing housekeeping chores and ensuring a quality experience for children that aligns with YMCA values.

Responsibilities

  • Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
  • Assists the classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum, including swimming with children during pool time.
  • Greets parents and children and interacts with the children while ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Makes and records observations of children.
  • Maintains classroom and equipment.
  • Assists with changing, feeding, and supervising children during outdoor play, handwashing, and toileting.
  • Is flexible to schedule changes.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS or is willing to work toward them.
  • At least 18 years of age or able to obtain a worker permit.
  • Must obtain and keep current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

Pay

$17.00 per hour.
