About the role

Columbia University School of the Arts invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Film, or as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Film, effective July 1, 2027. The MFA Creative Producing program seeks a dynamic, active producer with deep industry experience and relationships, who is also a dedicated educator, preferably with experience teaching at the graduate level.

The program emphasizes the producer’s role as the holistic creative and business force behind filmed projects, requiring storytelling and business skills, the ability to build collaborative teams, and an understanding of rapidly changing technologies and market conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and mentor graduate-level students in the MFA Creative Producing program.
  • Bring a vibrant professional practice in producing to the classroom.
  • Leverage a broad professional network in New York and Los Angeles for the benefit of students and alumni.

Requirements

  • Breadth of experience in narrative film, television, and digital media in both independent and studio contexts.
  • Ability to think imaginatively about the future of the industry.
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international co-productions.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, the creator economy, and emerging storytelling technologies, formats, and platforms.
