About the role

The Pediatric Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 12-bed specialized care unit designed to provide an intermediate level of care for pediatric patients. The unit supports a wide range of pediatric patients with complex and evolving care needs, including chronic patients, post-operative patients requiring cardiac monitoring, and those needing more frequent respiratory interventions. The unit also serves as a key transition area for patients stepping down from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to medical-surgical care.

Responsibilities

• Perform venous access procedures within the scope of RN licensure, ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
• Administer and monitor infusion therapy treatments, adjusting care plans based on patient responses and needs.
• Assess patients' conditions to determine appropriate venous access methods and address any complications.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients requiring venous access and infusion therapy.
• Provide patient education on venous access and infusion therapy to ensure understanding and compliance.
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1, with flexibility to adjust to 2:1 based on patient acuity and care requirements.
• Lead performance improvement initiatives by analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
• Mentor and precept new staff by providing hands-on training, feedback, and fostering professional development.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies to maintain high standards of patient services and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's of Nursing
• 1+ charge nurse or relevant leadership experience
• 1+ nursing experience within the acute care setting
• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS)
• Acute/Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS) [Preferred]
• Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) [Preferred]
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) [Preferred]
• Certified RN Infusion (CRNI) [Preferred]
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program - Advanced (NRP-A) [Preferred]
• Medical Surgical Nurse-Board Certified (MEDSURG-BC) [Preferred]
• NonViolent Crisis Intervention Program [Preferred]
• AVADE (AVADE) [Preferred]
• Certified Post-Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) [Preferred]

• Ability to lead the employees of their unit in the delivery of patient care
• Ability to lead performance improvement initiatives on their assigned unit
• Able to assist and mentor others in relation to the technology utilized on the unit
• Able to think critically in relation to the operations of the unit and delivery of patient care
• Able to manage the business of healthcare delivery on their unit, including assessing and managing financial practices
• Able to influence relationships and behaviors in relation to meeting the needs of the unit
• Able to act as a role model for professionalism on their assigned unit of employment
• Possess a broad nursing knowledge, leadership ability, accepts responsibility, exercises authority, and functions independently
• Possess insight for employee growth and development and the ability to do effective impartial counseling
• Able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
• Able to possess excellent clinical practice knowledge and apply this knowledge to the unit setting
• Able to have basic computer skills, including experience with an Electronic Health Record

Benefits

Up to $20,000 Sign on Bonus and $3,000 Relocation available for eligible candidates (see terms below)
