About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Operating Room, Evenings. In this role, you will provide clinical leadership and management for a designated shift on a patient care unit or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings. You will assist the nurse manager in developing and sustaining an environment of excellence in patient and family service, staff growth and development, and evidence-based practice to improve patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates performance and assesses practice of designated personnel in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Serves as a role model and resource for staff; develops and manages employees through professional growth, mentoring, appreciative coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline as appropriate.
  • Monitors staff attendance; ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety while promoting fiscal responsibility.
  • Coordinates care delivery and staff assignments based on patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation and patient outcomes; assists in scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the care continuum.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to support clinical operations; provides leadership support for other units in the service.
  • Holds self and others accountable for delivering exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at organizational, local, state, and federal levels.
  • Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders; reports significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety, risk management, and critical events to leadership; consults and seeks assistance when indicated.
  • Participates in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging front-line staff and incorporating shared governance principles.
  • Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team; analyzes and utilizes data to drive practice changes integrating quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.
  • Assists the leadership team in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learnings, and content for unit staff.
  • Fosters high reliability concepts within the unit and organizational structure.
  • Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with a focus on the future; participates in and supports staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice efforts.
  • Exercises independent judgment in discipline of employees (including suspension and discharge), evaluation of staff, approval of time-off requests, assigning work, and participating in hiring decisions.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Clinical certification in the patient population served or nurse leader certification.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities, including the ability to handle and move reasonably heavy weight.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing or a health-related area (preferred).
  • Two or more years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served (preferred).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (preferred).

Pay

The salary range for this role is $151,049.99 - $158,601.45 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
