About the role
The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) will assume patient assignments while serving as a clinical expert and key resource for inpatient operations, clinical decision-making, and issue resolution across the unit. The H60 Neuroscience Unit cares for patients with a broad range of neurological conditions, including stroke, MS, brain and spine tumors, Parkinson's, epilepsy, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, degenerative brain diseases, and complex spinal disorders.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate unit clinical operations.
- Provide direct patient care.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit caregivers and other departments.
- Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
- Coach and counsel caregivers on performance issues, providing ongoing clinical feedback.
- Interview, select, and orient new caregivers.
- Aid the Nurse Manager with HR-related issues.
- Prepare work schedules to ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
- Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes, studies, and research initiatives.
- Assume responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- 2 years of acute inpatient nursing experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Neuroscience nursing experience, particularly within stroke or complex neurological populations.
- Experience serving as a Preceptor or Charge Nurse, demonstrating leadership, mentorship, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Active participation in unit-based or organizational committees, reflecting engagement in quality improvement, professional governance, or practice advancement initiatives.
Physical Requirements
- Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are more than those for Light Work.
