Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to support the execution of the nursing strategic plan and priorities. This role provides operational and administrative support to nurse leadership, coordinating staffing, throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, and clinical corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership/Human Resource Management:
    • Participate in recruitment and retention strategies.
    • Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees.
    • Contribute to unit goal creation aligned with hospital goals and HMH’s mission and vision.
    • Lead or participate in evidence-based practice projects or research.
    • Engage in unit-based or hospital-based shared governance committees or councils.
    • Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions.
    • Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
    • Adhere to HMH’s Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
    • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations for assigned staff.
    • Monitor and contribute to the unit orientation process for all roles.
    • Model and promote employee recognition.
    • Demonstrate cultural competence, social justice, and fairness while leveraging generational diversity.
    • Escalate nursing labor/management issues where applicable.
  • Financial Management:
    • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager for efficient fiscal management of departmental activities.
    • Participate in payroll, staff scheduling, and daily staffing needs.
    • Assist in managing the department budget.
    • Monitor business intelligence for the unit.
    • Maximize care efficiency and throughput.
    • Understand the relationship between value-based purchasing, quality outcomes, and revenue.
    • Monitor unit staffing productivity and adjust staffing as needed.
  • Quality and Safety/Performance Improvement:
    • Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
    • Lead Multidisciplinary Rounds.
    • Ensure unit-based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended, and reported.
    • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
    • Conduct root cause analysis investigations.
    • Assure unit regulatory compliance.
    • Participate in staff education and competency.
    • Serve as a role model and mentor to new employees and Charge RNs.
  • General Job Functions:
    • Interpret, support, and communicate policies, standards, and procedures.
    • Serve as a role model for staff in all aspects of nursing (e.g., professionalism, quality care).
    • Identify cost containment measures by evaluating product utilization within the department.
    • Serve on-call based on unit requirements.
    • Assume special projects as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
    • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Requirements

  • Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
    • A minimum of an associate degree in Nursing or a diploma in Nursing.
    • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire (applies to team members hired on or after February 2025). Note: Advanced master’s degree in nursing programs satisfy the BSN requirement (e.g., Associates to MSN).
    • Minimum of 3 years of recent nursing experience in the respective specialty or equivalent. Exceptions may be made for internal candidates on a case-by-case basis.
    • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
    • Strong focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high-quality care.
  • Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
    • MSN.
    • Supervisory or charge nurse experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
    • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
    • National Certification acceptable to the Magnet Recognition Program and appropriate to your current specialty (within two years of hire).

Pay

Minimum annual base pay: $126,464.00. The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Some positions may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, commissions, or shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
