Assistant Nurse Manager - Maternal Newborn

About the Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager is the primary support person for the direction and coordination of nursing care for a specific patient care area. They collaborate in the assessment, evaluation, daily operations, and planning for nursing care in the clinical area. Responsibilities include working with the Unit Leadership team to plan for, supervise, and evaluate all program operations and patient care delivery.

Responsibilities

• Participate in hiring and evaluation of staff
• Set and maintain standards of nursing care and practice
• Coordinate service for patients
• Support organizational planning and compliance with regulatory standards
• Provide professional growth opportunities and clinical coaching for staff
• Share joint responsibility for unit outcomes, including patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and fiscal responsibility

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required); Master’s degree (preferred)
• Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State (required)
• Certification in specialty (preferred or active involvement with completion within twelve (12) months)
• AHA-BLS certification (required; current non-AHA-BLS card honored up to renewal date)
• Demonstrated leadership with strong oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

• Critical Care: Current ACLS and completion of a critical care course within 2 months (required)
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience (determined by the Associate Vice President or Vice President)
• Specific experience per unit criteria (preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, quality/risk management systems, electronic medical records, bed management systems, transport/resource management systems, learning management systems, staffing/scheduling systems, automated medication dispensing systems, MSDS, automated communication systems, and other role-specific technologies (preferred)
• Training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients (as applicable)

Schedule

Variable off-shifts with on-call requirements as scheduled.
