About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) oversees and assists with all levels of nursing care provided to patients within the Woody Stewart Heart Failure Intermediate Care Unit. This unit specializes in caring for patients with heart failure, including those with LVADs, low ejection fraction, and those requiring IV diuretics and cardiac drips.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and assists with all levels of nursing care provided to patients within the unit.
  • Assists Clinical Nurses with problem-solving and communication between care team providers.
  • Facilitates communication between care team providers and ensures patient needs are met.
  • Coordinates, elevates, and resolves problems and conflicts as they arise.
  • Ensures that nursing staff are current in competency, assessments, licensure, certifications, and other annual training.
  • Coaches and evaluates staff’s level of clinical practice.
  • Works with leadership team to identify employee strengths, development needs, skills, interpersonal and personal style, and relate those to the business needs and challenges faced by the team.
  • Supports the organization's "customer-centric" service program by conducting daily rounds on the unit to identify and address patient/family/physician concerns.
  • Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
  • Participates actively in the planning and distribution of patient assignments.
  • Attends daily bed huddles during shift and facilitates decision-making with respect to patient flow.
  • Maintains regular ongoing contact/communication with all levels of nursing staff.
  • Oversees completion of unit specific administrative tasks (i.e., PI audits, code cart).
  • Monitors staff performance/competency and provides feedback in a timely manner.
  • Affirms compliance with established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality controls, and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Ensures the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and is responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating patients.
  • Engages directly with physicians to ensure adherence to evidence-based practice standards and organizational priorities.
  • Monitors staff performance/competency and provides feedback in a timely manner.
  • Affirms compliance with established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality controls, and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Ensures the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and is responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating patients.
