About the role
The Assistant Night Warehouse Manager supports the Night Warehouse Manager in the execution of all night shift warehouse operations within a fast-paced unionized distribution environment, with primary focus on outbound order selection and delivery fulfillment activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the Night Shift Manager in overseeing all night shift outbound picking operations to ensure customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
- Ensure all routed deliveries are fully picked, staged, verified, and prepared for outbound loading operations.
- Monitor workflow and labor allocation to support productivity, service levels, and operational priorities.
- Cook with enthusiasm and integrity while ensuring communication, coordination, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with Routing, Transportation, Shipping, Inventory Control, and Warehouse leadership teams to ensure operational alignment.
- Ensure priority orders, late additions, will-call requests, and operational changes are communicated and executed appropriately.
- Monitor warehouse flow and operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support inventory movement, replenishment, and warehouse organization activities as operational needs require.
- Support the Night Shift Manager in maintaining leadership presence and operational oversight during night shift operations.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and operational support to union warehouse associates while assisting the Night Shift Manager with employee accountability and performance management activities.
- Maintain active floor presence and operational oversight throughout the shift while supporting priorities established by the Night Shift Manager.
- Assist with shift startup meetings, operational updates, employee communications, and performance discussions.
- Monitor employee productivity, attendance, work quality, and adherence to operational standards.
- Support the Night Shift Manager with staffing, onboarding, employee development, and training activities.
- Assist with operational planning and labor management initiatives.
- Operate effectively within a unionized work environment while adhering to collective bargaining agreements, established work rules, and company policies.
- Maintain professional working relationships with union representatives and warehouse employees.
- Hold employees accountable to work rules, attendance expectations, productivity standards, operational procedures, safety requirements, and workplace conduct expectations.
- Assist the Night Shift Manager with coaching, performance counseling, documentation, and corrective action processes in coordination with Human Resources and warehouse leadership.
- Participate in grievance investigations, fact-finding meetings, and labor discussions as required.
- Promote employee engagement, teamwork, accountability, and operational ownership.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and warehouse operating procedures.
- Promote and reinforce safe work practices throughout the warehouse.
- Conduct safety observations and ensure unsafe conditions are corrected promptly.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, product damage, and near misses and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure powered industrial equipment inspections are completed and documented.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards throughout all operational areas.
- Oversee execution of warehouse cleaning schedules and housekeeping expectations.
- Ensure aisles, pick locations, docks, staging areas, battery charging stations, and common work areas remain clean, organized, and operationally efficient.
- Ensure effective utilization of warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, labor management systems, handheld devices, and operational reporting tools.
- Monitor technology utilization and compliance rates across warehouse teams.
- Ensure inventory transactions, picks, replenishments, and operational system activities are completed accurately.
- Utilize warehouse reporting and operational data to monitor productivity and identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate with IT and warehouse leadership regarding operational system issues and technology improvements.
- Monitor and manage outbound productivity and operational performance metrics.
- Drive accountability for order accuracy, productivity, operational consistency, and service performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse flow, slotting efficiency, labor utilization, and picking productivity.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for operational issues and service failures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Support the Night Shift Manager and warehouse leadership team with operational planning and process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of warehouse or distribution leadership experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience managing or leading warehouse operations within a unionized environment strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of outbound order fulfillment, warehouse operations, inventory movement, and distribution processes.
- Experience providing leadership and direction to frontline warehouse employees within a distribution environment.
- Previous supervisory or assistant management experience preferred.
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, labor management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong understanding of warehouse safety standards and OSHA requirements.

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around powered industrial equipment and warehouse traffic.
- Ability to work overnight and flexible hours based on operational needs.
