About the Role

The Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the program, including coaching, recruiting, event scheduling, personnel supervision, budget management, and student-athlete academic success. The role emphasizes a positive coaching philosophy, collaboration with university departments, and a commitment to inclusivity through training, hiring practices, and campus initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit student-athletes capable of academic success and graduation while managing a cost-effective program.
  • Demonstrate coaching competencies in skill instruction, motivation, tactical strategies, and competitive scheduling to maximize student-athlete development.
  • Provide leadership in student-athlete personal development, aligning with the University’s 4-D experience model.
  • Coordinate program operations, including team travel, recruiting logistics, equipment, meals, and technical/video software.
  • Uphold NCAA, Big East, University, and Division of Athletics rules and regulations with professionalism and ethical behavior.
  • Maintain strong working relationships within the Division and University.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor of Athletics & Ritchie Center Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Successful coaching experience.
  • Proven ability to recruit student-athletes committed to academic and athletic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Collegiate coaching experience.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including communication and public relations.
  • In-depth knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, tactics, and strategy, with the ability to teach and mentor student-athletes and staff.
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth for student-athletes and assistant coaches.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to excel in academics and athletics.
  • High professional standards, integrity, and adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and Division rules.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic athletic environment.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment with moderate to high noise and stress levels, fluctuating seasonally.
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Frequent travel may be required.
  • Occasional manual labor, including transporting objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Mix of sedentary work and active coaching in fitness and field environments.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $70,000–$75,000. The University of Denver provides a compensation range as a good faith estimate at the time of posting. The final salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget availability, and market factors, excluding protected status.
