About the role
As the Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager, you will help customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. You will assist the Meat & Seafood Manager in overseeing department operations, including ordering, inventory control, product quality, and team supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
- Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.
- Lead a team to deliver high-quality products, exceptional service, and a great customer experience.
- Assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
- Knowledge of weekly ad items; assist with inventory and ordering while enforcing department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading product to ensure freshness and quality.
- Follow "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs.
- Unload and sort store deliveries; operate and maintain meat & seafood equipment.
- Ensure compliance with company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines; validate team adherence to these procedures.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age with a basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience; proven leadership experience and 2-3 years of grocery retail experience in Meat department processes preferred.
- Dependable, reliable, and able to perform related duties as assigned.
- Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and strong customer interaction skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Perform general housekeeping, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.).
- Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations, and company recipes.
Skills
- Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and 8 hours per shift; walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
- Ability to work in a temperature-controlled area.
- Good vision required for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
- Ability to lift and carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, a distance up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
- Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
- Ability to horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
- Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
