Assistant Meat/Seafood Manager
About the role
As the Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager, you will help customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service while managing and leading one of the busiest teams in our store. This role involves assisting the Meat & Seafood Manager in merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit, overseeing ordering and inventory controls, and ensuring product quality.
You will coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. This includes leading a team to deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer experiences, as well as hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
You will also manage weekly ad items, enforce department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading products, and ensure adherence to "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs. Additional responsibilities include unloading and sorting store deliveries, operating and maintaining meat and seafood equipment, and ensuring compliance with all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Meat & Seafood Manager in managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit.
- Oversee ordering, inventory controls, and product quality.
- Coordinate production, merchandising, and sales through planning, direction, and teamwork.
- Lead a team to deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
- Assist in hiring, teaching, training, and developing the Meat & Seafood team.
- Manage weekly ad items and enforce department practices for receiving, stocking, and unloading products.
- Ensure adherence to "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs.
- Unload and sort store deliveries; operate and maintain meat and seafood equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Perform general housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations, and follow company recipes.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age with a basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience, proven leadership experience, and 2-3 years of grocery retail experience in Meat department processes (highly preferred).
- Dependable, reliable, and able to perform other related duties as assigned.
- Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and ability to interact with customers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Qualifications
- Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and a total of 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to walk up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
- Good vision for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
- Ability to lift and carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, a distance up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
- Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
- Ability to horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
- Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
