Assistant Marketing Manager

About the Role

Leads planning, activation, analysis, and reporting of local marketing initiatives including AutoZone's high-profile sports sponsorships, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and the World Golf Championships – FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The Assistant Marketing Manager will serve as the key liaison with cross-functional teams including internal marketing, merchants, store operations, commercial, community relations, event volunteers, agencies, and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning, execution, and post-event evaluation of sports sponsorships.
  • Manage program renewals, gain approvals, maintain contracts, and provide a point of view on new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with partnership developers to assist in ideation and conception, including attending, contributing to, or leading meetings.
  • Provide ongoing updates to ensure effective communication across all activation groups and management.
  • Create post-event evaluations to understand value, operational execution, and opportunities for future events.
  • Coordinate content development for use in sponsorship assets (media, event, digital, social).
  • Secure and/or prepare AutoZone executives for on-air interviews or event-related appearances.
  • Work closely with the brand/creative team on the development of all creative assets (signage, promotions, printed collateral, and social).
  • Collaborate with the rewards team for respective Loyalty promotions and hospitality activation.
  • Traffic broadcast elements.
  • Act as liaison with vendors, event hosts, and stakeholders (executives, community relations, etc.) during the planning process and on-site activations.
  • Deliver a best-in-class experience for DIY and Commercial customers and provide a well-orchestrated experience for AutoZone participants.
  • Coordinate with the event’s management company for on-site planning and execution, including food, seating, entertainment, rentals, and other related activities.
  • Manage 20+ volunteers for each event, secure teams, and provide detailed responsibilities, timelines, and guidelines for activation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to determine ticket allocations, parking, week-of events, schedules, and required clearances. Allocate tickets and coordinate attendees for all events.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years of work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or communications.
  • Previous experience in project management preferred, with an event environment or sports marketing as a plus.
  • Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible in an ever-changing, collaborative environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to react quickly and decisively as needed.
  • Ability to manage projects by tracking deadlines and collecting/organizing information.
  • Excellent project management skills to enable multiple projects running on time and on budget.
  • Self-motivator who is confident, energetic, and creative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting to small and large groups, including the executive level.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
  • MS Office competency required; experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint; WorkFront helpful.
  • Able to work nights and weekends as required for program events, meetings, etc.
