About the role

The Assistant Market Grille Department Manager position at Hy-Vee is responsible for assisting the Department Manager in presenting fresh, innovative, and high-quality products competitively priced to customers. They also ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by greeting customers, learning their names, and addressing them by name.
• Aids customers by escorting them to products, securing items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking product orders.
• Works with co-workers as a team to maintain a pleasant work environment and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Checks orders, sets up timelines, and assigns tasks for completion.
• Rotates and replenishes food display cases, checks for and addresses issues in the Market Grille area, and assigns tasks to Market Grille staff.
• Maintains proper staffing levels, controls inventory, and ensures the supply area is clean and orderly.
• Handles catering contracts, follows food safety guidelines, handles customer issues, suggests ad items, reviews signage, and assists with monthly inventory.
• Assumes management duties in the absence of the Department Manager, writes schedules, and calculates production amounts.
• Orders all products and supplies for the department, trains employees, and assists in other areas of the store as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

• High school or equivalent education with Sanitation (Food Safety) courses encouraged.
• One year of similar or related experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic calculations, file, post, interview, guide, and provide basic direction.
• Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Qualifications

• Must adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
• Works closely with Restaurant and Service staff and reports to work when scheduled and on time.
• Assumes management duties in the absence of the Department Manager, writes schedules, and calculates production amounts.
• Trains employees in department duties, orders all products and supplies for the department, and understands and performs all aspects of department duties.
• Assists in other areas of the store as needed and performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
