About the role

Delivers advanced professional and technical nursing care to patients with real or potential life-threatening illnesses presenting for care in the Emergency Department. Collaborates with the medical staff and other disciplines in order to facilitate patient care. Accountable for the smooth, effective and efficient functioning of the unit, with minimal direction from the department head. Supervises and instructs the department's nursing personnel for assigned shifts. Ensures that the department's nursing staff complies with the objectives and policies of the hospital and that age/developmentally appropriate care is given in accordance with unit standards. Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient. Provides input to Director/CNO regarding hires, staff performance issues/needs, and employee schedules. Has the authority to transfer, suspend, terminate or discipline other employees. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, AHCA and the Nurse Practice Act. Is responsible for the planning and execution of the educational needs of the department. Due to necessity, he/she will be needed to work beyond the regular tour of duty, thus this is an hourly position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the administrative and clinical activities of the Department unit(s)
  • Supervise and instruct department nursing personnel for assigned shifts
  • Ensure nursing staff complies with hospital objectives and policies
  • Provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with unit standards
  • Perform nursing techniques for patient comfort and well-being
  • Provide input to Director/CNO regarding hires, staff performance issues/needs, and employee schedules
  • Exercise authority to transfer, suspend, terminate, or discipline other employees
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, AHCA, and the Nurse Practice Act
  • Plan and execute the educational needs of the department

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved nursing educational program, BSN preferred
  • Minimum two years as a staff nurse
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Management experience preferred
  • Registered Nurse - licensed in the state of Florida
  • ACLS and BLS certification
  • 2 to 5 years clinical experience
  • Previous Assistant Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills
