About the role

We are seeking a customer-focused, strategic, and proven leader to join as an Assistant Manager of Insurance Agency. In this role, you will oversee the development and execution of insurance sales strategies, accountability for insurance production goals, member experience, profitability, and other key department objectives and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Agency Manager in day-to-day responsibilities, including overseeing Insurance Specialists and managing operational efficiencies within the agency.
  • Help mitigate risk by effectively reinforcing policy and procedure, managing appointments with carriers, and performing other duties assigned by the AVP of Insurance Agencies.
  • Lead the Insurance sales team to achieve sales goals, service level agreements, and superior member experience through effective execution of selling techniques, marketing ideas, and exceptional service standards.
  • Ensure the Insurance sales team’s adherence to Credit Union and departmental standards.
  • Prepare timely evaluations that accurately measure employee performance and provide direction for future growth and development.
  • Practice Integrity Coaching principles, routinely coaching the team using these principles and the Member Advantage philosophy.
  • Motivate the team, set and communicate clear expectations and goals for employee performance and responsibilities.
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, counsel, and terminate staff when necessary, ensuring proper staffing and training.
  • Monitor team production, service metrics, and pipeline performance to ensure office goals are achieved.
  • Serve as the primary leader of the office and liaison between agency leadership and local staff.
  • Actively produce new insurance business through inbound and outbound sales activities, including referrals, credit union partnerships, networking, and marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain a personal sales pipeline and consistently meet or exceed individual production goals.
  • Conduct insurance coverage reviews and cross-sell opportunities for existing members to expand household penetration.
  • Participate in community events, credit union promotions, and marketing campaigns to generate leads and increase brand awareness.
  • Track personal production, lead conversion, and pipeline activity using agency CRM tools and reporting systems.
  • Assist in preparing, implementing, and monitoring the department budget consistent with the overall strategic plan and annual budget.
  • Develop sales goals based on the departmental sales budget and current and projected market conditions.
  • Review loss ratios with carriers and adjust processes when needed.
  • Identify local marketing opportunities and partnerships to generate new business leads.
  • Monitor agency performance metrics, including production, retention, and loss ratios, and adjust processes as necessary.
  • Create and monitor reports that enhance pipeline management, sales, member experience, and quality.
  • Provide feedback from reports to leadership.
  • Understand and comply with the rules and regulations associated with the insurance industry.
  • Ensure all agency records are accurate, current, and up to date with insurance carriers, external websites, internal documentation, and other entities.
  • Demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act and other Federal laws, including the U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
  • Foster excellent communication through individual and timely team meetings with staff.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or 5 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience with at least 5 years of progressive management experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in insurance sales and business development.
  • 220 Property & Casualty License.

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of all Credit Union sales departments.
  • Excellent leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication and influence skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with business leaders and regulators at all levels.
  • Discretion in decision-making and sound, logical judgment in problem-solving.

Schedule

Monday–Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and Saturday (9:00 am to 1:00 pm). Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.

The position is hybrid (in-office or remote) and may be changed at any time by management with appropriate notice, if possible.

Remote/Hybrid Work Requirements

  • A quiet workplace to focus on delivering excellent service to members.
  • Power and high-speed internet over 100MB (minimum).
  • Video capability (connection of 1.5 Mbps up and down recommended).
  • Hybrid candidates must live within driving distance of the office location and be able to commute regularly as needed.
