Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in Management of Operations at Science Center
- Assist in oversight, evaluation, and assignment of duties to all full and part-time farm laborers and part-time research assistants in research plot activities.
- Assist in hiring and termination decisions of field/shop staff.
- Assist in oversight of Field Workers: part-time farm laborers in general field and shop maintenance.
- Contact and works with electrical, plumbing, and general contractors.
- Assist with oversight of Inventory/Equipment: Investigate and order experimental equipment, agricultural and lab chemicals, and general farm equipment and supplies.
- Audit and report on center's budget related to all general farm supplies, and some research-related supplies.
- Serve as center's Safety Officer backup and assist in developing HazCom and HazMat training with NMSU Safety Office; provide safety training to staff.
- Ensure staff follow center's specific policies/rules.
- Inspect all equipment and buildings for safety concerns and general maintenance needs.
- Coordinate and manage field, equipment, and shop resources for visiting researchers and/or graduate students.
- Maintain and map all plot and field activities and applications of materials, including through appropriate mapping software.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.
- Valid Driver’s License to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Public pesticide applicator’s license (yearly renewal).
- Certificate “How to Safely Use and Handle Paraquat – Containing Products”.
