Assistant Manager - Customs Brokerage

Responsibilities
- Prepare and process all import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
- Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
- Stay abreast of changes in import laws and regulations by reading current literature and attending conferences.
- Ensure all applicable products meet CPSC requirements.
- Classify goods according to the tariff coding system and calculate duty/tariff payments.
- Quote duty and tax rates based on federal tariffs and excise taxes.
- Post bonds for imported products or assist clients in obtaining them.
- Apply for tariff concessions, duty drawbacks, and other refunds.
- Prepare papers for shippers to appeal duty charges.
- Clear goods through customs and coordinate local delivery to final destinations.
- Cook up freight release, including Pier Pass TMF and Clean Trucks Program CTF fees.
- Maintain relationships with brokers in other ports to expedite cargo clearing.
- Advising customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, and quotas.
- Provide advice and quotes on various transportation options.
- Update shipment status to clients and notify consignees if documentation is missing for CBP entry.
- Invoice clients for services and perform other duties as directed by management.
Requirements
- Certification: Must be a Licensed Customs Broker.
- Experience: Proven experience in brokerage operations and managing CBP/OGA electronic submissions. Minimum of 10 years of experience in freight forwarding or logistics.
- Process Automation: Ability to identify and implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) opportunities to streamline repetitive entry tasks and electronic submissions.
- Data Literacy: Proficiency in using data-driven insights and tools (such as Power BI) to monitor compliance KPIs and operational performance.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of HTS classification, import laws, and OGA requirements (including CPSC, FDA, and EPA regulations).
- Communication Skills: Strong customer service orientation and ability to confer effectively with agency officials.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to manage complex documentation including certificates of origin and cargo-control papers.
- Physical Presence: This is an on-site, work-from-office position based in New York.
- Adaptability: Ability to stay current with changing industry regulations and manage multiple priorities.
Compensation & Benefits
The approximate annual base salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $115,000.00. The offered salary or salary range for this position will vary based on role requirements, skill set and years of experience.
