About the Role
Responsible for all daily store operations when operating as the manager-on-duty. Assists the Store Manager in managing all aspects of the retail store by promoting and maintaining customer service. Oversees store operations to maximize sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate sales promotion activities and prepare (or lead associates to prepare) merchandise displays and signage.
- Recruit, train, develop, and communicate with all staff and assess performance on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.
- Plan and prepare work schedules to assign associates to specific duties.
- Monitor and order merchandise from distribution center to replenish merchandise in store.
- Ensure compliance of associates with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices.
- Address, problem-solve, and resolve customer complaints or inquiries.
- Open and close the store when needed, including security and related duties.
- Manage payroll budget and fiscal responsibilities with corporate office.
- In the absence of the Store Manager, assume all duties of the Store Manager to make appropriate decisions for the daily operations of the store.
- Operate a forklift on occasion (forklift certification will be required and obtained on the job).
- Dispense propane on occasion (propane certification will be required and obtained on the job).
- Assist in departments when needed.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, replacing trash bags, and sweeping the store floor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience working in a retail environment preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Eagle Browser preferred.
- Experience working in different departments of the store preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of operating a POS system preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain and possess a valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing work environments and shift priorities accordingly.
- Familiarity with operating a computer system and email.
- Familiarity with standard retail concepts and practices.
- Familiarity with reading and understanding industry and financial reports.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
