About the role

The Assistant Landfill Manager assists the Landfill Manager with the maintenance and operation of Sandpoint Landfill, located 12 miles east of Carlsbad on Highway 62/180. This position requires on-call status 24/7, except for specific relief periods. The Assistant Landfill Manager assumes the responsibilities of the Landfill Manager during their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees assigned to the operation of Sandpoint Landfill
  • Orientation and direction of employees in daily operations, schedules, safety, work performance evaluations, policies, work quality, equipment operations, project evaluations, design, management, public safety, and public awareness
  • Develop and maintain regulatory record keeping, including daily logs of work activities, waste volumes, daily site deposits, equipment logs and records, equipment maintenance records, fuel/material purchases, orders, and invoices
  • Assist in the orientation and direction of employees in safety, work performance evaluations, policies, work quality, equipment operations, project evaluations, design, and management, public safety, and public awareness
  • May be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • On-call status 24/7, except for specific relief periods
  • Authority to direct work schedule from Sandpoint Landfill Manager, Road Manager, Assistant Public Works Director, and Public Works Director
  • Subject to random drug screening as a safety-sensitive position

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Pay

Starting pay range: $75,119.00 - $82,905.00 annually, DOE
