Assistant Indoor and Beach Volleyball Coach

About the Role

This assistant position will work closely with the volleyball staff in maintaining the success of the indoor program while helping develop the brand-new beach program. The role involves creating a culture of excellence in both programs and supporting a commitment to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity. The position operates under the direction of the Head Coaches in Indoor and Beach Volleyball, embracing the philosophies and rules of NCAA Division III and the ASC.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in game evaluation with specific responsibilities.
  • Assist in pre-practice preparation.
  • Supervise specific areas of practice as directed by Head Coaches.
  • Assist in recruiting and game management as directed by Head Coaches.
  • Assist in all aspects of practice and daily activities, as directed by Head Coaches.
  • Maintain professional communication skills with all student athletes.
  • Assist with specific needs as directed by Head Coaches.
  • Assist the Head Coaches with academic and retention meetings.
  • Follow all NCAA rules and regulations as well as those of the ASC.
  • Maintain University Office Safety (e.g., secure cords, clear walkways, proper placement of chairs).
  • Ensure no liquids or food are placed near office equipment to prevent damage.
  • Facilitate good communications between employees, campers, parents, and management.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all Athletic Department matters.
  • Other duties as directed by the Head Coaches and Athletic Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • College coaching experience preferred (with emphasis on NCAA D-III) but not required.
  • College-level playing experience required.
  • Ability to relate to young adults.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as a university team member.
  • Ability to travel overnight with the team.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Schreiner University, ASC, and NCAA policies.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED (updated annually).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance, and a good driving record.

Working Conditions

  • Out-of-town overnight travel for intercollegiate athletic contests, meetings, conferences, and recruiting efforts using a personal or university vehicle.
  • Weekend and holiday work schedule when necessary.
  • Overtime work required during season and postseason play, recruiting, and meetings.
  • 75% walking or standing during the season and practice.
  • 80% of time at a desk during the off-season.
  • Driving of university vans to transport athletes to games.
