Assistant in Training

About the Role

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management. They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties, though most job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Responsibilities

• Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
• Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
• Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs.
• Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience.
• Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, policies, and security practices.
• Achieve personal sales goals and support Teammates in their sales presentations.
• Provide legendary service in key areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
• Handle all exchange and return procedures, turning them into showmanship opportunities.
• Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
• Meet performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
• Expand Guest selection through inventory management tools and apps.
• Build and maintain good Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.
• Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness.
• Coach and train new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards.
• Maintain a positive attitude and create a positive floor culture.
• Demonstrate and coach the latest fashion trends among Teammates.
• Participate in daily setup, training, impacting, and reviewing using the Performance Tracker.
• Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
• Execute actions from department calendars and track progress.
• Partner with Store Manager to pick education focus and delegate tasks.
• Assist in recruiting and staffing needs.
• Own and influence product through zone ownership and merchandising.
• Ensure sales floor is sized and new freight is displayed appropriately.
• Handle operations including opening/closing checklists, markdowns, and freight management.
• Follow Loss Prevention guidelines and handle security risks.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store.
• Provide feedback to Store Manager and Leadership Team.
• Assist in supervising and supporting Leadership.
• Promote personal and store growth.
• Handle schedule changes professionally.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1-3 months of related retail experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Ability to lift and maneuver 50lbs throughout the store and backroom.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
