About the role
The Assistant Housekeeping Manager aids the Housekeeping Operations Manager in supervising, directing, and managing the Housekeeping, Laundry, and Public Areas departments to ensure high levels of cleanliness and guest satisfaction. This position promotes a healthy work environment by fostering teamwork, integrity, and excellence.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the hiring process for the Housekeeping Department by interviewing candidates.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals and counsel employees on improvements.
- Ensure accurate documentation of terminations, counseling sessions, evaluations, and coaching in personnel files.
- Assist in training and developing Housekeeping staff on departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and technology to maximize revenue and competitiveness.
- Monitor training programs to ensure high levels of customer service.
- Assist in resolving customer complaints and follow up on guest reviews and feedback.
- Oversee lost and found procedures for all housekeeping areas.
- Conduct department meetings to motivate and prepare staff; ensure accurate shift change updates.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures, and standards.
- Ensure proper maintenance and use of equipment; monitor cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of work areas.
- Maintain awareness of hotel room status, group arrivals, VIPs, special events, and staff responsibilities.
- Ensure staff clock in properly; document late or absent employees and arrange replacements.
- Coordinate breaks, prepare and distribute assignment sheets, and review priorities.
- Assign radios, keys, and iPads/iPods to staff; maintain accurate records and ensure key security.
- Communicate changes to assignment sheets throughout the shift.
- Inspect guest rooms, corridors, elevator foyers, vending areas, service areas, linen closets, staff restrooms, and storage areas.
- Check staff for proper work attire and grooming.
- Inspect equipment for supplies, cleanliness, and mechanical issues; instruct staff to correct deficiencies.
- Inspect public areas, bathrooms, restaurants, pool areas, offices, and service areas using checklists; relay deficiencies to staff.
- Assist staff with job functions to ensure optimum cleanliness and service standards.
- Report maintenance work orders and monitor timely completion of guest requests.
- Manage employees’ missed or improper time clock punches.
- Complete all paperwork and closing duties; review status of assignments with manager or oncoming supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; College Degree preferred.
- 2 years’ experience as a manager in hospitality with positive leadership qualities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in the Housekeeping department of a high-volume property.
- Knowledge of basic sanitation, safety compliance, and chemical handling/disposal.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to adapt to change with a positive attitude and follow directions thoroughly.
