Job Summary
The City of Dallas is seeking an Assistant Greens Superintendent to assist the Greens Superintendent in supervising turf management and applying pesticides on golf courses.
Overview
The Assistant Greens Superintendent assists, supports, and participates in the agronomic direction for the 18 hole golf course, performing maintenance and care tasks, operating specialized equipment, and applying chemicals.
Essential Functions
- Performs the turf maintenance of greens, roughs, and fairways; maintains the surrounding landscaping by planning and implementing cultivation programs and disease, insect, and weed control programs to ensure the playing surfaces on the golf courses are maintained in optimal condition.
- Captures and sprays the various types of chemicals such as herbicides, fungicides, pre- and post-emergent, and insecticides to maintain the best appearance of turf areas at City's golf courses.
- Operates necessary equipment, provides irrigation troubleshooting, trims trees, manages storm clean up and handles other forestry concerns related to the golf course; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment to ensure continuous operation.
- Provides on-site job training to maintenance crews to ensure proper procedures are followed in the maintenance of turf areas.
- Keeps records of expenses, work orders, schedules, attendance, and mechanical repairs to maintain accurate documentation of daily activities; assists in the ordering of supplies and fertilizers for the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways and landscape beds; supports the maintenance of adequate inventory levels to ensure that chemicals are available at all times.
- Responds to citizens' complaints or concerns regarding potential hazards that may exist in and around golf courses; interacts with the public, neighborhood associations, vendors and the Pro Shop staff to ensure that the needs of the golfing public are met in a timely manner.
- Performs any and all tasks as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of turfgrass management, care, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the uses and effects of various types of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, pre- and post-emergent sprayed on golf courses.
- Ability to apply greens science related to golf course.
- Knowledge of project management.
- Ability to identify diseases and apply chemicals and other applications.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and repairs.
- Budget Management and general accounting and purchasing.
- Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
Experience
- 1 year experience with golf course greens maintenance and management.
Licenses and Certifications
- Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator 3A License to be obtained during the 6 month probation period.
Education
- High School Diploma, GED.
Salary Range
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
