Assistant Girls Soccer coach
Columbus East High School is seeking an Assistant Girls' Soccer Coach.
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport, with a commitment to examining new theories and procedures
- Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
- Completed Concussion Certification and National Federation of High School Sports Coaching Accreditations, compliant with IHSAA coaching certification regulations
Reports To
The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
Supervises
Advises, coordinates, and supports a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
Job Goal
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must also demonstrate and instruct behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. The coach is expected to upgrade their knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
Responsibilities
- Implement all athletic policies approved by the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation's School Board of Education
- Know and consistently implement existing system, state (IHSAA), and league (Conference) regulations
- Follow the proper administrative line of command and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels
- Attend all required public, staff, and departmental meetings
Staff Responsibilities
- Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff
- Design and conduct conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program
- Encourage professional growth by promoting clinic attendance according to local policy
- Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff effectiveness at the end of the season
- Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation
- Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director or principal
Administrative Duties
- Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special events
- Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times
- Coordinate with maintenance and school employees
- Provide documentation for state and system requirements (physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility)
- Ensure proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and sites
- Advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes
- Maintain and report scores and team statistics to local media and the athletic director at the end of the season
Student Responsibilities
- Serve as a mentor to promote character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
- Monitor student athletes' grades and conduct
- Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for participants during practices, games, and travel
- Communicate training rules and sport-specific regulations to athletes
- Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies
- Work with athletic trainers to ensure proper procedures for disabling injuries
- Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians
- Enforce discipline, delineate due process procedures, and contact parents when necessary
- Assist athletes with college or advanced educational selection
Finance and Equipment
- Participate in budgeting with the athletic director and establish requirements for the next season
- Recommend equipment guidelines (type, style, color, technical specifications)
- Operate within budget appropriations
- Account for all equipment and collect costs for lost or unreturned items
- Arrange for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment, and submit annual inventory
- Properly mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing
- Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access as needed
- Ensure athletes are only in authorized areas at appropriate times
- Inspect locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of specific sport equipment
- Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving if custodians are not on duty
- Instill respect for equipment and school property in players
Public Relations
- Organize preseason meetings for parents, coaches, players, and guests
- Promote the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not in other programs
- Promote the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or other feasible methods
- Maintain quality, effectiveness, and validity of oral or written releases to local media
- Maintain good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans
- Present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results
Pay
Stipend based on experience.
