Assistant Girls Basketball Coach

About the Role

This casual position supports the sport program by instructing athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training to achieve individual and team success. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, or Director of Student Activities.

Qualifications

  • ACPS staff preferred
  • Knowledge and background in the assigned sport
  • Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training
  • Teach participants personal hygiene, safety procedures, and the importance of reporting injuries immediately
  • Inform students about the insurance program available through Alexandria City Public Schools
  • Provide a safe environment through adequate supervision for all students in the program
  • Assist the Head Coach with maintaining individual and team performance records
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and submit them to the appropriate director
  • Convey team, school, and ACPS policies (e.g., regulations on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra-Curricular Activities) to all participants
  • Ensure compliance with rules, policies, and regulations of the Virginia High School League, regional and district councils, and ACPS
  • Submit required forms (e.g., eligibility rosters, player addresses) to meet Virginia High School League, School Board, and ACPS requirements
  • Follow the School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies for financial transactions
  • Establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians
  • Inform students about the athletic program and encourage participation
  • Assist the Head Coach with public relations and conveying information about the athletic program
  • Implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations
  • Ensure availability of a first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions to ensure participant safety
  • Participate in professional growth activities
  • Participate in award programs following school procedures
  • Promote an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship
  • Assist other personnel and perform additional duties as required for an efficient work environment

Pay

Stipend pay ranges from $1,000.00 to $2,500.00.

Clearances

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test
  • Public Health Compliance – Must follow safety and health protocols
