Assistant Geologist

About the Role

This position involves evaluating and interpreting subsurface field and sampling data, including soil and groundwater, to develop conclusions about environmental and geologic site conditions. You will generate subsurface maps and cross-sections, collaborate with engineering and environmental science staff, and oversee field monitoring and testing of soils. Projects may include construction earthwork, structural foundations, well design, environmental assessments (Phase I/II), and seismic risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Interpret soil, bedrock, and groundwater elevation and quality data.
• Prepare written plans and reports for site investigations, assessments, and remediation activities.
• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning and report safety concerns.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Gather, tabulate, and prepare data for written reports; assist with report preparation by summarizing data.
• Operate and maintain field monitoring equipment, including calibration and transport of samples to laboratories.
• Perform site visits, field observations, and data collection for projects of varying complexity.
• Conduct water, soil, and other sampling; analyze data from reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs.
• Implement technical requirements for client projects by directing field staff in sampling, testing, and data collection.
• Develop written proposals for client approval, including quality control review of proposals.
• Evaluate laboratory and field data, assembling findings into written reports.
• Serve as a team member or lead in client meetings and communications.
• Oversee and mentor lower-level Geologists/Hydrogeologists as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history (may be required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in a relevant field of expertise.
