About the role

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Wachesaw Plantation Club is a key member of the Club's senior leadership team, working closely with the General Manager to oversee daily operations. This highly visible role provides leadership across clubhouse operations, food and beverage, member services, social and private events, and other assigned areas, ensuring an exceptional member experience and consistent execution of the Club's service standards. The AGM partners with department leaders to promote operational excellence, accountability, and collaboration while serving as a visible ambassador of the Club's culture.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, relationship-driven leader comfortable engaging with members, mentoring department heads, and supporting the Club's operational and financial objectives. This role is ideal for an experienced hospitality professional with a strong background in food and beverage management, financial oversight, and team development, who thrives in a member-centric culture.

Wachesaw Plantation Club is a private, member-owned country club in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, known for championship golf, exceptional hospitality, and an active social lifestyle. Since 1985, the Club has delivered an outstanding member experience in a timeless Lowcountry setting featuring live oaks, Spanish moss, and views of the Waccamaw River.

  • Active membership of approximately 580 across Golf, Social/Social Sport, and Tennis categories
  • Ongoing multi-million-dollar enhancements through the "Building Our Legacy" initiative, improving pool, dining, and outdoor facilities

Initial Priorities

  • Develop strong relationships with the General Manager, department leaders, staff, and members while understanding the Club's culture and operational priorities
  • Become a visible and engaged presence throughout the Club, reinforcing service standards and delivering exceptional member experiences
  • Evaluate clubhouse operations to improve consistency, communication, and efficiency in collaboration with the leadership team
  • Invest in the growth and development of department leaders through accountability, coaching, and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Club's financial objectives, strategic initiatives, and long-term vision to become a trusted partner

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across clubhouse, food and beverage, member services, and events
  • Ensure consistent execution of the Club's service standards and exceptional member experiences
  • Partner with department leaders to promote operational excellence, accountability, and collaboration
  • Mentor and develop high-performing teams while fostering a positive workplace culture
  • Support financial and strategic objectives, including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and cost controls
  • Evaluate operations to identify opportunities for efficiency, innovation, and enhanced service standards
  • Serve as a visible ambassador of the Club's culture, building trust with members, guests, and staff
  • Contribute to capital improvement projects, facility enhancements, or organizational change initiatives

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in progressive leadership roles within a private club or comparable luxury hospitality environment
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional member and guest experiences with high standards of hospitality and operational excellence
  • Extensive food and beverage leadership experience, including assessing operations and implementing innovative solutions
  • Strong leadership presence with experience mentoring, developing, and inspiring teams
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent while fostering engagement and accountability
  • Ability to create, implement, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for consistency and efficiency
  • Highly visible, approachable, and relationship-driven with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and labor management
  • Strategic thinker comfortable balancing day-to-day operations with long-term vision
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with private club technology platforms (e.g., club management software, POS systems, business analytics tools)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred (progressive leadership experience may substitute)
  • Professional designations such as CCM or other industry-recognized certifications are encouraged but not required
  • Experience supporting capital improvement projects, renovations, or organizational change initiatives is highly desirable
