Assistant General Manager

Assistant Manager position in Kansas City, Missouri, reporting directly to the General Manager to oversee daily operations including route supervision, staff management, customer communication, and operational compliance within budgetary plans.

Responsibilities

• Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
• Oversees scheduling of operators, monitors operations, and coordinates service delivery with superiors.
• Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure all operational service requirements are met.
• Tracks, compiles, and analyzes performance; handles interdepartmental issues; resolves employee issues and grievances; improves processes and route scheduling.
• Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates staff performance; ensures timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
• Assists in accident/incident investigation, including on-site support to safety and training personnel.
• Coordinates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety goals and directives are met.
• Develops Operations department budget.
• May operate a vehicle in revenue service, if necessary.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Air brake endorsements required (or ability to obtain one).
• 3 or more years of supervisory experience required; transit experience preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
• Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and relevant database programs.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with labor, including handling grievances and negotiations.
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical, if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 prohibits the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions—100% of the job is performed outside, including remote locations.
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances on sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces.
• Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
• Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to access files or equipment stored at ground level.
• Withstand heavy traffic areas; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.

Pay

Competitive compensation package ranging from $64,000 to $80,000 annually.
