About the role
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in all aspects of hotel operations, including guest and associate satisfaction, financial performance, sales, and revenue generation. This role nurtures a hotel environment that emphasizes motivation, empowerment, teamwork, and a passion for service.
Responsibilities
- Handle guest problems or complaints professionally and courteously.
- Interview, screen, and hire applicants as needed; process new hire paperwork and provide job training.
- Develop cross-training opportunities for associates throughout the hotel.
- Recommend and initiate personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
- Input weekly payroll into the company timekeeping system and comply with payroll deadlines.
- Assist and teach team scheduling using the scheduling tool to meet guest hours and occupied room goals.
- Ensure staffing levels are appropriate to exceed guest expectations.
- Assist the General Manager in developing hotel budgets and capital expenditure plans.
- Teach Department Managers and Team Supervisors to understand financial objectives while balancing costs with guest satisfaction and quality.
- Communicate and enforce all department policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
- Ensure all brand standards are met and maintained in each department.
- Analyze and resolve work barriers.
- Interpret company policies and provide a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with safety programs and job safety analysis.
- Oversee hotel accident prevention programs.
- Maintain knowledge of all emergency procedures.
- Possess a working knowledge of the maintenance and operating procedures of all departmental equipment.
- Perform other duties, projects, and tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related major preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity within a hotel environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to clearly articulate ideas to a diverse audience, including guests, associates, management, and vendors.
- Flexible schedule to meet hotel needs, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability (hotel operates 24/7 year-round).
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and hotel brand systems.
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
- Energetic, self-motivated leader with a strong work ethic.
- Maintain an open-door policy.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and hotel brand software systems.
