Gjelina NYC is seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant General Manager to join our leadership team. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about hospitality, enjoys developing people, and thrives in the energy of a fast-paced restaurant.
About the role
This role works closely with the General Manager to lead daily operations, support the team, and create a warm, consistent experience for our guests. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and thoughtful leader who is comfortable being present on the floor, solving problems in real time, and balancing great hospitality with strong restaurant operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the floor team throughout daily service
- Help create a welcoming, knowledgeable, and consistent guest experience
- Coach, train, and develop team members while encouraging opportunities for growth
- Partner with the General Manager on recruiting, hiring, scheduling, payroll, and team performance
- Maintain strong communication between the floor, kitchen, and leadership teams
- Support inventory, purchasing, labor, COGS, budgets, and P&L goals
- Maintain high standards for cleanliness, safety, organization, and overall restaurant presentation
- Build relationships with regular guests while creating memorable experiences for new guests
- Support restaurant events, catering, and special services
- Help ensure compliance with health, safety, and company standards
Requirements
- 5+ years of restaurant or hospitality experience
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills
- Solid understanding of food, beverage, and restaurant operations
- Comfortable working with P&Ls, budgets, forecasting, labor, and COGS
- Organized, proactive, dependable, and solutions-oriented
- Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Comfortable with restaurant technology, POS systems, and Excel/Google Sheets
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- English/Spanish bilingual skills are a plus
Pay
$80,000–$90,000 per year, DOE
