Responsibilities

  • Support a business of approximately $1.8 billion in revenue and approximately 3,500 employees worldwide.
  • Provide legal, strategic, and risk management advice on a wide variety of global privacy, AI, and data protection matters.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on privacy and data protection, providing practical, timely, and strategic legal advice across the business.
  • Drive and continuously evolve the organization’s global legal privacy strategy and governance framework in response to new laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement trends, and litigation.
  • Proactively monitor and assess emerging privacy, cybersecurity, and AI regulations (horizon scanning), advising on their potential business impact and readiness planning.
  • Influence the strategic implementation of privacy and data protection requirements across products, services, and internal operations.
  • Advise product, engineering, and business teams on privacy implications of new and existing products, features, and data uses, including data minimization, transparency, consent, data subject rights, AI-related requirements, and third-party integrations.
  • Advisory on complex data processing activities, identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks.
  • Support incident response efforts by advising on investigations involving potential cyber & data incidents, including breach notification obligations and regulatory exposure.
  • Provide business-focused, risk-based guidance that enables innovation while maintaining compliance with global privacy, data & AI obligations.
  • Lead or support global privacy program initiatives, including the development, implementation, and improvement of policies, procedures, standards, templates, and playbooks.
  • Draft, review, and maintain internal privacy policies and procedures, as well as external privacy notices, consent language, and disclosures, collaborating and advising the Compliance team where applicable.
  • Align privacy and data protection strategies with applicable legal requirements and industry best practices across key global markets.
  • Provide legal support for the review, drafting, and negotiation of privacy and data security provisions in commercial agreements, including data processing agreements, data sharing agreements, and data protection addenda.
  • Develop and maintain standards and templates to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability in contracting and privacy reviews.
  • Advises on complex data-related transactions and partnerships, translating legal requirements into practical operational guidance.
  • Engage with privacy regulators and supervisory authorities in connection with new products, regulatory inquiries, audits, and investigations.
  • Manage and coordinate outside counsel across jurisdictions, synthesizing advice into clear, actionable recommendations for the business.
  • Collaborate with public policy and government affairs teams on opportunities to inform or influence privacy and data protection legislation.
  • Participate in industry groups and forums to stay current on best practices and emerging trends.
  • Support the Compliance team on delivering effective privacy trainings and communications for legal and non-legal audiences across regions, functions, and levels.
  • Promote a strong culture of privacy awareness and accountability throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience (i.e., with a primary focus on privacy and data protection) gained at law firm and in-house (at a publicly traded company).
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or equivalent foreign qualification), with ability to practice in the role’s location as required.
  • Deep expertise in global privacy and data protection laws and frameworks, including GDPR/UK GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA), and other international regimes.
  • Extensive experience leading or advising global privacy programs and managing complex, cross-border privacy and data issues.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on AI governance and emerging AI regulations, or strong interest and ability to rapidly develop expertise in this area.
  • Proven capability to manage high-volume, complex environments with sound judgment and adaptability.
  • Fosters inclusivity and manages emotions to achieve optimal business outcomes.
  • Able to effectively pivot direction and collaborate across teams to meet strategic initiatives.
  • Exceptional business judgment and legal issue identification skills, coupled with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Adept at articulating business needs and defining actionable strategies.
  • Actively seeks input from diverse sources to ensure engagement and influence stakeholder buy-in at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated passion for the business.

  • Works effectively with other members of the Legal team, internal clients, and cross-functional organizations to influence and develop strategic initiatives.
