Job Summary

The Assistant General Counsel, Federal Litigation represents Chicago Public Schools and its employees in civil suits filed in the Northern District of Illinois and other administrative forums. They collaborate with the Senior Assistant General Counsels and other Assistant General Counsels on litigation strategy and case management. They provide client counseling, advice, guidance, and support across CPS schools and departments. They review and edit written work product and analyze case value to make recommendations on case resolutions.

Education Required

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, required.
  • Must be licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Illinois.
  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for Northern District of Illinois is preferred.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of one (1) year legal experience, inclusive of internships, externships and/or clerkships, two (2) years preferred.
  • Experience in employment law and/or civil rights law strongly preferred.

Conditions of Employment

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
