About the role

Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education, Education Technology Services (ETS) on a wide variety of matters.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for negotiating and drafting a variety of contracts such as agreements with corporate clients, vendors, and consultants.
  • Draft, revise and enforce policies governing contract review and execution.
  • Manage and optimize contract review process, from concept to executed contract, ensuring comprehensive review to protect the Company’s interests while also ensuring speed and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including internal subject matter experts and business leaders, during the contract review process.
  • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings involving contracts and commercial disputes.
  • Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators, primarily related to the Company’s contractual obligations.
  • Assist with general corporate matters.
  • Provides legal and compliance training to in-house clients.

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC, or Minnesota.
  • At least three years of experience in the practice of law.
  • Preferred experience in negotiating/drafting contracts.
  • Experience with contract management software.
  • Experience with SaaS contracts preferred.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $84,900.00 - $127,400.00.
