Assistant Foreman
About the role
HMT, LLC is seeking an Assistant Tank Foreman for an immediate opening. The role involves directing personnel in the safe execution of site-specific scope of work items as outlined in contract documents. The position requires heavy lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and working in confined spaces with breathing equipment. Candidates must also be able to work in extreme weather conditions and tolerate extended periods of time inside tanks.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all employees are working safely and in a secure environment.
- Fulfill all requirements from the HMT Safety Manual, site-specific requirements, and customer-specific requirements.
- Work closely with the Tank Foreman to understand the scope of work and report any potential problems or issues.
- Communicate regularly with the Tank Foreman to ensure ongoing support and guidance.
- Support the Tank Foreman in managing the field crew, ensuring efficient task performance with regard to manpower, equipment, tools, and consumables.
- Comply with all Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) requirements, including contract drawings and specifications.
- Complete general site paperwork such as timesheets, T&M sheets, and purchase orders.
- Handle onsite customer relations and red-line construction drawings as needed.
- Provide sketches of existing customer equipment and complete required HMT Data Sheets.
- Train crew members in tank building techniques and assist in the training of prospective employees.
- Maintain a positive attitude with crew members and be willing to travel (75%-100%).
Required Qualifications & Education
- A minimum of 2 years of heavy steel industry work experience, preferably in the AST industry.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record and personal vehicle.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organizational skills.
- The ability to handle multiple jobs concurrently and support up to 15 employees.
- Able to complete all required paperwork related to safety and QA/QC without assistance.
- Knowledge of automatic welding and burning equipment, including the ability to operate and train others in its use.
- Ability to interpret field and fabrication drawings.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate via email and phone.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work in various locations within the U.S., potentially in extreme temperatures, high places, and confined spaces.
- Experience with tank building and tank operations.
- Knowledge of tank construction and maintenance practices.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, climbing, carrying, pushing/pulling, and using repetitive wrist and hand movements.
- Lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Mental alertness throughout the work shift.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, wetness, confined spaces, fumes/odors, working with ladders/scaffolds, working with pressurized equipment, high places, hazardous materials, and working alone.
