About the role

To motivate and develop each athletes’ skills, attitudes, and habits that will guide them toward success, personal growth, and good character. To provide examples of fair play, team building, and respect. Provide leadership and motivation to excel.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Attend all tryouts, practice meetings, and in-school events, and supervise students during related field trips and other out-of-school functions
  • Aid in organizing practice schedules and game rosters
  • Aid in assigning positions to players, and develop strategies and styles of play
  • Aid in attending out-of-school meetings, supervising fundraisers, and helping students prepare for competitions
  • Coach individual participants of varying abilities in the skills necessary for achievement in Football
  • Aid in tracking student performance throughout the season and develop stat sheets on players
  • Aid in arranging with the athletics and activities director for any necessary transportation, scheduling, coordination of officials, or other arrangements for competitions related to the sport
  • Aid in ensuring the safety of the students and maintaining responsibility for the security of equipment and facilities and ensure that safety equipment is used correctly
  • Aid in complying with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy pertaining to medical procedures and student athletes, including the district’s concussion policy
  • Aid in ensuring that students are eligible to participate, and that they have had any necessary physical examinations
  • Aid in promoting the athletic program, seeking student participation, and selecting team members
  • Aid in modeling positive behavior, maintaining a supportive environment, and remaining professional, even when tension is high
  • Aid in maintaining high standards of conduct for student athletes, including respect and fair play
  • Aid in abiding by the rules of the Idaho High School Activities Association Handbook
  • Aid in assisting with the collection of funds
  • Aid in working with other coaches, parents, referees, news reporters, operators of non-district facilities used for practice or competition as appropriate
  • Aid in assisting the head coach, when requested to do so, in maintaining necessary attendance forms, insurance records, physical check-up forms, accident reporting, and all other required paperwork
  • Aid in training and assigning duties to team managers, and directing event volunteers, if applicable
  • Aid in evaluating the program annually and making recommendations for improvements as necessary
  • Aid in assuming responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
  • Aid in adhering to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education as well as to the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Code of Ethics
  • Aid in representing the school district in a positive manner
  • Aid in knowing and following school district policy and chain of command
  • Aid in performing other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Education And/Or Experience

High School Diploma or GED preferred. Idaho Teaching Certification, American Sport Education Program Certification, or National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association Certification strongly preferred. Certification or willingness to obtain certification in first aid and CPR required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Football, sports training, conditioning, injury prevention, kinesiology, management, and the rules of the Idaho High School Activities Association Handbook
  • Related experience as determined by the Board
  • Ability to foster and sustain students' interest in the activity and promote skill development
  • Possess good organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work well with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to demonstrate aptitude for working with adolescents
  • Works well with students, staff, and the public
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff and students

  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or the general public. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS: Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to conduct basic math functions, as well as manipulate formulas in spreadsheets.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing (Microsoft Office), spreadsheets (Excel), database (Access), presentation software and accounting/financial software.
