About the role
The Assistant Food Service Director works with the Food Service Director to plan, direct, and coordinate activities associated with running a large food service operation with one or more production kitchens. The Assistant Food Service Director is also responsible for supervising a group of food service workers involved with the preparation and distribution of food in the kitchen.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for the supervision, training, and management of the facility food service operation.
- Hires, orients, trains, and issues corrective action (when applicable) to team members.
- Review and approve payroll on a weekly basis.
- Build and maintain positive connections with clients by regularly communicating, understanding their needs, proactively addressing concerns, providing excellent service, and working to ensure their continued satisfaction.
- Oversee the preparation and serving of appropriate quantities of food according to facility or site plan.
- Ensure the team is adequately trained and capable of performing job responsibilities in a safe and compliant manner.
- Maintain accuracy of inventory in advance preparation of the planned menu schedule.
- Ensure ordering and all required reports are completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee all preventive maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the program.
- Manage food service operation in compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as required local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Ensure that food items are stored in a safe and hazard-free manner.
- Plan for special events and functions through participation in meetings with assigned customer facility operations staff.
- Maintain all serving schedules to ensure all food items are served per menu specifications in a safe and appropriate manner according to departmental guidelines.
- Maintain a sanitary environment following food service and Health Department codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate on-site reports of daily and monthly financial, production, and activity.
- Responsible for any state or other inspection of the food service operation.
- May participate in the contract negotiation and renewal process.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, and must be at least 18 years of age.
- Two years of management or supervisory experience in a food service position.
- Three years of experience working in food service.
- ServSafe Certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience with purchasing, inventory, ordering, and receiving.
- Knowledge and experience managing and applying kitchen sanitation and safety standards and methods.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and mathematical abilities to complete necessary reports.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and with food service management systems.
- Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred.
