About the role
Assistant Engineer Level 2 assists in designing, developing, implementing, and analyzing technical systems and facilities for MTA C&D. This role performs simple routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques—assists more senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering tasks by developing knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processes.
- Provides engineering support on multiple design projects, including analyzing and documenting critical design elements.
- Develops site layout/grading, elevated structure, roadway/transit/pedestrian facilities, marine structures, utility design, stormwater management facilities, and erosion & sediment control plans and details.
- Captures requirements and incorporates feedback from team members.
- Coordinates and communicates with team members, Agency Owners, designers, contractors, outside consultants, and other government agencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in the appropriate Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Communications, Track, Signals, Environmental, Fire Protection).
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
- Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations is a plus.
- Analytical ability, pro-active attitude, willingness to learn, and an ability to think "outside the box" when required.
- A general understanding of current design, engineering software, and Microsoft Office is required.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant design software.

Final salary is determined by experience, skill set, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
Schedule
This position is eligible for telework, which is currently one day per week.
