Job Summary

There is one position as an Assistant Engineer I, with an emphasis in the electrical field, for the Construction Management Unit. As an Assistant Engineer I, you will be responsible for learning and assisting with construction inspection and testing and on-site contract administration on heavy public works construction contracts. The successful candidate will learn and assist in assuring that constructed work and furnished materials meet specified standards. This position involves coordination with Metropolitan’s design engineers, project managers, construction managers, operations personnel, technical specialists and other agencies in an exciting, challenging environment with broad opportunities for career advancement.

What You’ll Do

  • Learns and assists with construction inspections to verify compliance with contract requirements, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.
  • Learns and assists with contract correspondence, including reviewing and responding to contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs), and other project documentation.
  • Learns and assists in reviewing contractor work plans, procedures, schedules, and payment requests and developing independent cost estimates.
  • Learns and assists in investigating construction deficiencies and documenting findings to support corrective actions.
  • Document construction activities, maintain project records, and prepare technical reports.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

About the Role

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a state-established cooperative that, along with its 26 cities and retail suppliers, provides water for 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.

Employment Standards

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hire date.
  • Certifications, Licenses, And Registration Requirements: License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hire date.
  • Sponsorship: Applicants for employment with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H1-B or other employment-based immigration case).
