Assistant Engineer
About the role
The City of Stockton's Municipal Utilities Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience related to: distribution and treatment of drinking water, collection and treatment of sanitary sewer systems, collection and conveyance of stormwater systems, engineering design and construction management practices, public infrastructure planning and development.
Responsibilities
- Aid in planning, design, and construction of utility and public works projects
- Prepare engineering studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Review engineering calculations and technical documents
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and City staff
- Conduct field inspections and evaluate project progress
- Support the delivery of critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure improvements
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field
- Possession of a valid California registration as a Licensed Land Surveyor
- Two (2) years of engineering experience in design, development review, construction, or traffic planning or operations
- A valid California driver's license
Qualifications
- Pattern I: BA/BS with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field AND a minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience
- Pattern II: California registration as a Licensed Land Surveyor AND a minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience
SkillsKnowledge of sewer pump stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plant processes is highly desirable
Benefits
The City offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule consisting of nine-hour workdays Monday through Thursday, and eight hours every other Friday, with alternating Fridays off. Work hours may be adjusted with supervisory approval.
