Assistant Electrical Engineer, Transmission & Distribution - Protection Applications (Atlanta or Charlotte)
About the role
The Assistant Electrical Engineer will assist project teams in creating world-class designs for various types of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. They will work with project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans based on budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify electrical plans for projects from conceptual phase to completion.
- Assist in the electrical design of projects including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Design electrical components for project needs and requirements as directed by project managers.
- Research and compile project-related data as needed by project managers.
- Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using multiple CAD-related software.
- Prepare and present client presentations, conduct shop drawing reviews, and manage contract administration for various facility types.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, and calculations for public and private clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program, or
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred. Basic knowledge in standard electrical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite, electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
