About the role
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) seeks an Assistant Editor to join the Communications Department at its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Assistant Editor works closely with the Creative Services team to ensure that BGEA's print and online content aligns with the ministry's mission of proclaiming the Gospel.
Responsibilities
- Provides substantive editing and copyediting for print and digital projects for Creative Services
- Supervises, trains, and leads the department’s proofreading team
- Interfaces with executive staff on approvals, as needed
- Identifies a project’s message or objective and translates it into effective communication
- Contracts with freelance proofreaders as needed
- Executes revisions as directed

- Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
- Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
- Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions including Bible reading, and leading group prayer as schedule permits
- Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
- Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence
Qualifications
- Four-year degree from college or technical school and five years of related experience and/or training—or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to translate concepts into narrative text and solve problems
- Knowledgeable and proficient with Microsoft Office (including Word, Outlook, and Excel)
- Able to quickly learn new workflow and approvals software
- Communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas while remaining sensitive to readers' needs

- Ability to work independently and under direction
- Able to juggle multiple projects
- Able to sit for long periods of time at computer screen
- Able to work well with others in a team setting
- Note: This division is controlled by deadlines. Occasionally, working beyond standard hours and without prior notice is necessary
