Assistant DON (ADON) - RN

About the Role

Southridge Specialty Care, an 82‑bed long‑term care skilled nursing community in Marshalltown, IA, is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) for the 2 pm – 10 pm shift. This position supports the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the nursing department, providing a pathway for advancement within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and directing the nursing department.
• Conduct regular rounds to monitor care delivery, acknowledge progress, and propose solutions to address concerns.
• Enforce policies and guide the team, fostering personal and team growth.
• Support and coach RN staff to promote teamwork and high‑quality care.
• Manage administrative functions to enhance department efficiency and support future growth.
• Communicate effectively with residents and families regarding care needs.
• Document care accurately to meet clinical, regulatory, and facility standards.
• Follow infection control, safety, and compliance protocols at all times.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation with other members of the leadership team.

Qualifications

• Valid RN license in good standing, licensed in Iowa or ability to activate an Iowa license.
• Current, valid CPR certification.
• Knowledge of federal and state long‑term care regulations and laws.
• Desire to learn and grow as part of a quality‑focused clinical team.
• Strong commitment to helping others with empathy, respect, patience, and discretion.

Schedule

Shift: 2 pm – 10 pm, with participation in an on‑call rotation.
