Responsibilities

  • Serves as the administrative and financial deputy for the research mission of the School of Nursing.
  • Oversees research operations including resource allocation, financial management, grants and contracts administration, and efficient flow of daily research operations.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, and processes for all activities and implements and monitors strategic planning objectives.

Strategic Budgeting/Reporting

  • Develops, defends, and monitors the current and long-range operating and capital budgets of the research mission.
  • Coordinates with the Associate Dean for Research to develop, update, and analyze the annual faculty workload budget by activity type.
  • Maintains integrity of all data including financial and other.
  • Develops and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the financial status compared to budget of operating accounts and externally and internally funded projects.
  • Develops and analyzes financial forecasts.

Revenue/Expenditure Management

  • Accountable for the integration of multiple sources of revenue including grants, contracts, endowments, and gifts to maximize efficiencies with SON resources.
  • Reviews and approves all research revenue and expense activity consistent with UR policies.
  • Oversights the account reconciliation process including balance sheet accounts.
  • Manages the operational and developmental resources and support for research activities within the Center for Research Support, including personnel, space, supplies, computers, and office/research-related materials and equipment.

Personnel Management

  • Coaches, develops, and mentors staff to contribute to optimal research management and fosters an expectation of accountability and recognition for teamwork.
  • Communicates effectively and regularly with staff to set priorities and ensure successful completion of work.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises professional/administrative staff assigned to the Center for Research Support.
  • Provides initial and ongoing training and development including the use of research administration and financial systems.
  • Provides ongoing feedback including a formal annual performance evaluation.
  • Ensures staff are aware and compliant with University policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the regulatory reporting (University and federal) required of the Center for Research Support and insures compliance with government regulations and funding requirements.
  • Assigns projects, establishes deadlines, and ensures coordination of effort between internal staff and external constituents.
  • Takes action on matters of discipline, promotion, salary, and other matters.
  • Manages the system for documentation of effort for the Research Facilitation Group, which provides research project and data management services to SON researchers, and provides quarterly reports to the Associate Dean for Research and the Director, Research Facilitation Group.
  • Works with principal investigators, research faculty, and others on hiring and management of research project staff, including creation of job descriptions and effort reporting for team members.
