Assistant Director, SLATE Specialist (Undergraduate Admissions)
We are seeking an Assistant Director, SLATE Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This role focuses on recruiting and conducting application reviews for a specified regional territory for first-year and transfer admission to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering.
About the role
The Assistant Director serves as a public-facing ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Johns Hopkins University. The position involves both in-person and virtual recruitment, requiring about four weeks of off-campus travel per year, as well as some evening and weekend work. In addition to core responsibilities, this role includes serving as a member of the SLATE team, contributing to CRM best practices, and supporting data analysis and tools for office projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct recruitment and application review for an assigned region (domestic and/or international territory).
- Build relationships and host presentations in the market, including visiting high schools and community organizations.
- Develop knowledge and familiarity with the secondary school landscape in the assigned region.
- Leverage basic data analysis to manage decisions in a designated region(s) or area of study.
- Conduct information sessions, support tours, and assist in the visitor center as needed.
- Respond to routine requests from prospective applicants, families, and counselors.
- Represent and communicate knowledgeably about Hopkins’ academics, student experience, and financial aid programs.
- Support programming and event staffing on and off campus as assigned.
- Manage internal and external relationships with faculty, counselors, prospective students and families, current students, university administrators, high school counselors, and alumni.
- Serve as part of the SLATE team, supporting the development and creation of analysis and tools in the CRM system.
- Provide data to teams to inform decision-making processes and collaborate on creative solutions to problems.
- Investigate and make recommendations for the usage of AI in office processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- One year of related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of related experience.
- Experience as a college or university admissions officer, including recruitment and application review.
- Proficiency in Excel, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty, and other university partners.
- Ability to represent Johns Hopkins University professionally to the public.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates professionalism with internal and external constituents.
- Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.
Pay
Starting salary range: $49,200 - $86,200 annually ($65,000 - $72,000 targeted; commensurate with experience).
Schedule
37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with some nights and weekends required for events, recruitment, evaluation, and selection.
