About the role

The Assistant Director of Pre-Law and Pre-Health Advising provides leadership, supervision, and strategic coordination for the university's pre-professional advising programs. This role supervises a team of academic advisors supporting students pursuing law and health professions pathways and serves as the primary Pre-Law advisor for the campus. The Assistant Director collaborates with academic departments, faculty, and campus partners to ensure cohesive advising support for students in pre-law related majors and pre-health programs. The position plays a key role in program development, assessment, and student success initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional advisors within Pre-Law and Pre-Health advising.
    • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development of advising staff.
    • Establish clear advising standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
    • Assist in strategic planning and goal setting for pre-professional advising initiatives.
  • Primary Pre-Law Advising
    • Serve as the campus's lead Pre-Law advisor, providing comprehensive advising on academic planning, experiential preparation, LSAT readiness, application strategy, personal statements, résumé review, and interview preparation.
    • Develop and deliver workshops, law school information sessions, and admissions programming.
    • Cultivate relationships with law schools, admissions representatives, and alumni.
    • Monitor national trends in legal education and admissions and integrate best practices into academic advising.
    • Coordinate annual Law School Fair.
  • Pre-Health Advising Oversight
    • Provide leadership and coordination for Pre-Health advising services supporting students pursuing medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physician assistant studies, and related fields.
    • Ensure advising consistency related to course sequencing, experiential preparation, application timelines (e.g., centralized application services), and interview readiness.
    • Collaborate with staff to evaluate and enhance programming and student support resources.
  • Departmental Advising Coordination
    • Assist in the coordination of departmental advising as it relates to pre-law related majors and pre-health pathways.
    • Partner with department chairs, faculty advisors, and program directors to align curricular guidance with professional school expectations.
    • Support communication between central advising and academic departments to ensure clarity in messaging and student planning.
    • Contribute to campus-wide advising initiatives impacting pre-professional student populations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or higher).
  • At least 3 years of experience in higher education or legal setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including students, faculty, alumni, and external partners.
  • Knowledge and understanding of college student population.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and delivering workshops, fairs, or other large-scale events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising advising staff.
  • Familiarity with health professions advising.
  • Experience collaborating with academic departments.
  • Engagement in professional organizations related to advising or pre-professional education.

Pay

$67,000
