Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging

About the role

Responsibilities

  • Counsels and advises the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
  • Develops and facilitates leadership development initiatives.
  • Coordinates community engagement and service opportunities.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to advance institutional goals related to student engagement, belonging, retention, and student success.
  • Create, maintain, and promote programming and activities calendar with special attention to student organization engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct assessments to implement best practice methods for event planning, membership development, leadership curriculum, service opportunities, recruitment, budget development and program effectiveness.
  • Handle email communication, phone calls, other inquiries related to student activities, events, leadership development and community service opportunities.
  • Work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in management of Student Activities programs.
  • Experience planning and facilitating campus-wide events, Homecoming and Welcome Week activities, leadership training, and community service activities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills, ability to work in a high energy, flexible team environment.
  • Planning large-scale campus events, advising students, collaborating with campus and community partners.
  • Administrative skills, event planning skills, prioritization skills are necessary.
  • Experience with marketing and promotional effort related to growth in student activity participation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in higher education, student affairs, marketing, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in management of Student Activities programs contributing to significant student engagement efforts/initiatives.
  • Experience advising/supervising student staff and providing professional development.
  • Utilizing assessments to make data informed decisions.
  • Ability to develop collaborative partnerships with campus and community stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Student Activities programs, student organizations, campus engagement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory, student personnel administration, and retention.
  • Experience creating and facilitating broad engagement, socialization, and student development through the delivery of a dynamic calendar of on and off-campus events for a variety of student populations.
  • Manage programming budget, goals, processes, assessment regarding campus programs, leadership and service events.
