This position supports the President by creating and managing a wide range of communications, including research, letters, speeches, presentations, video messages, social media, and other materials aligned with the President’s communication priorities. The role reports to the Senior Advisor to the President for Communications and Operations within the Office of the President.
Responsibilities
- Develop clear, original communications that reflect the President’s voice across multiple platforms and audiences while aligning with the University Mission.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion with sensitive issues and documents.
- Apply academic writing styles, research knowledge, and current topics in higher education to communications.
- Edit, proofread, and present materials with precision and professionalism.
- Manage politically sensitive issues within a complex higher education environment.
- Prioritize and execute multiple projects under tight deadlines with strong organizational skills.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders, demonstrating initiative and respect.
- Utilize MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and content creation platforms proficiently; adapt to new communications tools as needed.
- Engage with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Comply with all University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, English, or a relevant field (alternate fields considered with significant professional experience).
- Five years of professional experience in communication, journalism, and/or writing/editing.
- Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and minimum age of 21 (required for UIW driving responsibilities).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, or English.
- Spanish proficiency.
- Experience in higher education.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with extended hours as needed for events and departmental goals.
Physical Demands
- Lift up to 20 lbs of office or event materials.
- Reach overhead, bend, and squat to retrieve materials.
- Push or pull event carts holding up to 40 lbs.
- Actively engage in events for extended periods.
- Move between campuses and event venues regularly.
