About the role
The Assistant Director of Nursing is an RN who assists with the management of the day-to-day healthcare operations of the community to ensure resident's healthcare needs are met. They ensure residents are treated with respect and dignity and ensure quality care as resident's healthcare needs change. They supervise licensed nurses and other direct care staff within the community.
Responsibilities
- Have direct supervision of community-based license nursing staff (LPN/RN), the Med Techs/CNAs (if required by State regulation) and or Lead caregiving employees.
- May also supervise Resident Care staff.
- Assign and direct work of subordinates; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Provide ongoing training, supervision, and monitoring of employees in the administration of medications as described/allowed in Nurse Practice Act, to include auditing of medication administration records.
- Provide training and education to resident care employees on an ongoing basis with classroom in-services, and situation-specific training.
- Supervise the maintenance of resident charts and reviews documentation performed by care giving staff.
- Assess health, functional and psycho-social status of residents, initiate individualized service plans, proactively manage care and services for each resident, evaluate effectiveness and maximize the resident’s opportunity to remain in their environment.
- Manage the health care of residents, including the dissemination of information to families and employees.
- Participate in pre-admission screening of prospective new residents. Ensure that required documentation is completed prior to or upon resident admission, including nursing assessments, service plans, and other assigned forms.
- Updates assessments as required by policy and as described/allowed in Nurse Practice Act.
- Perform on-site evaluations of residents admitted to alternate care environments for treatment and maintain contact with resident families with the intent of returning resident to the Community.
- Ensure that family members are aware of resident’s needs for scheduled appointments. Prepare Physician Visit Form and review and update resident charts.
- Facilitate continuity of care for those residents receiving home health care, hospice services, and other third-party healthcare-related services.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- RN with a current license in Florida.
- Two years' experience in geriatric nursing with strong leadership skills required.
- Participation in professional organizations, dealing primarily in geriatrics preferred.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Can generate a warm, friendly, and caring manner on first impression.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Qualifications
