- Minimum: $75,000 Annually

About the Role
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Clinical Education, the Assistant Director of Clinical Education provides operational leadership and administrative oversight for the third- and fourth-year clinical education program at WesternU/COMP, supporting both its day-to-day functioning and long-term effectiveness. This role directs departmental administration and personnel, oversees student rotation coordination and clinical site relations, monitors the department's budget, and helps advance strategic initiatives that strengthen the program. The position ensures smooth, well-coordinated functioning across all operational areas.
Responsibilities
- Operations and Logistics:
- Provide administrative oversight for departmental operations, including supervision of staff, student rotation coordination, workflow optimization, and technological integration.
- Directly supervise the Manager of Clinical Education and other assigned staff and provide indirect oversight of personnel who report through the Manager.
- Oversee personnel functions including staff development, performance management, and allocation of work assignments for direct reports, and provide hiring recommendations for departmental positions.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the department and serve as a resource for coordinators and managers.
- Strategic Planning:
- Provide high-level planning to guide the vision, effectiveness, and future development of the Department of Clinical Education.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Clinical Education to identify department priorities, develop action plans, and support continuous improvement across operational areas.
- Curriculum Implementation, Grades, and Assessment:
- Optimize clinical education's curricular delivery and grades and assessments workflows, processes, and personnel in partnership with Manager of Clinical Education.
- Site Relations:
- Support and maintain ongoing relationships with clinical sites and preceptors, including affiliation support and stakeholder engagement, in coordination with the Associate Dean of Clinical Education.
- Serve as a senior resource for resolving escalated site issues, troubleshooting operational concerns that arise, and routing matters requiring the Associate Dean's involvement accordingly.
- Conduct new site initial visits as appropriate.
- Site Evaluation:
- Assist in the evaluation and reporting relating to clinical rotation sites, including communication with sites and coordination of documentation and follow-up.
- Budget:
- Monitor the department's internal budget, including tracking expenditures, preparing reports, and ensuring alignment with institutional financial goals.
- Provide recommendations on resource allocation to support departmental priorities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Clinical Education.
Requirements
- Master's degree in education, healthcare administration, or a related field required.
- At least five years of experience in higher education and/or clinical administration, including a minimum of two years of direct supervisory experience with responsibility for staff development and performance management. Experience managing GME program(s) is also acceptable.
Skills
- Knowledge:
- Clinical education operations, rotation logistics, and departmental administration within an allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
- Budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, and resource allocation within an academic or clinical department.
- COCA accreditation standards and osteopathic medical education requirements.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, preceptors, and healthcare partners.
- Ability to plan and execute high-impact events and manage logistics in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency with software systems relevant to clinical education, data tracking, and workflow management.
- Abilities:
- Supervise and develop staff, manage competing operational priorities, and implement process improvements across departments.
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential student and staff matters.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with COCA (Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation) standards and accreditation processes.
